Language training (LINC)

Run your LINC program from one place

From the assessment referral to the certificate, each learner’s path is in Cairn. Coordinators fill classes, close terms and report to iCARE.

The LINC classes list: four classes with their site, schedule, seats and status.

A week in LINC

What coordinators and instructors do in Cairn through a term.

  1. 1

    Fill the seats

Refer learners for assessment, then match them from the wait-list to a class. Cairn opens their LINC case.

  2. 2

    Invite and welcome

Check who still wants their wait-list place, invite learners to a class and send welcome letters.

  3. 3

    Close the term and report

Approve progress reports and issue certificates. The term’s work fills your iCARE files.

Before the first class

Assessment referrals that lead to a seat

Refer a learner to an assessment centre, record their results, and they join the wait-list at the recommended level.

  • Your agency’s assessment centres in one list
  • Listening, speaking, reading, writing and numeracy
  • Sites, times, childcare and other needs kept with the referral
Mariam Al-Sayed’s CLB placement and two earlier results, with a level for each skill.

End of term

Close a class in one pass

The End of term tab lists every learner. Prepare draft progress reports, approve them, then issue certificates together.

  • Drafts start from each learner’s portfolio
  • Completed levels added to the CLB history
  • Certificates signed and printed as a batch
A Certificate of Achievement issued to a learner and signed by the program director.

Ready for iCARE

Your classes report on IRCC’s six Language Training templates, filled in from the classes, registrations and registers.

A missing course code, site address or exit detail shows on the class before you export.

  • Course setup and close-out from each class
  • Enrolments and exits from each registration
  • Daily attendance from the instructor’s register
  • CLB level updates from approved progress reports

Who can issue certificates?

Program managers issue them, from progress reports the instructor approved and recommended. Instructors don’t see certificates.

What if an instructor forgets to take the register?

That day’s attendance waits in the iCARE export as “register not taken” until the instructor records it.

How do learners’ exits reach iCARE?

Each of your exit reasons maps to one of iCARE’s reasons in Settings. Cairn flags any reason that isn’t mapped.
