Community connections

Every circle, event and outing counted

Record conversation circles, field trips, youth programs and matching meetings as sessions. Cairn knows which iCARE template each one belongs to.

Today, with the day’s sessions and their rooms, follow-ups due and cases needing attention.

A week in community connections

What CC staff do in Cairn, from planning to the monthly upload.

  1. 1

    Plan the activities

Set up a weekly circle or a one-off event, with a room or an online meeting link.

    More on clients and cases
  2. 2

    Remind everyone

Text the whole group before it starts. Each person reads it in their own language.

    More on messages
  3. 3

    Mark who came and report

Take attendance and note what you delivered. Each person becomes a row on the right template.

Six kinds of activity

Choose the activity, and the form follows

Each session has one activity type. Cairn shows only the choices and formats that type allows.

  • Community activities, matching and well-being navigation
  • Children and youth, and Indigenous-newcomer connections
  • Informal language learning, kept apart from LINC
A session’s iCARE answers for one client: language, delivery format, support services and the module’s questions.

Families together

Children and parents, each with their own file

Every child or youth you report has their own client record and case, linked to their family.

  • Family members linked on one page
  • Childcare needs noted with the family
  • Volunteers and hosts named in the session summary
A client’s Family tab listing her spouse, two children and her mother, with who lives with her and who needs childcare.

Ready for iCARE

Community Connections reports on six IRCC templates, one for each activity type. Cairn files each session under the right one.

A session that mixes two activity types becomes two sessions, because iCARE takes each type in its own file.

  • Activities delivered in each session
  • Who the activity was designed for
  • Language used, formats and supports for each person
  • Hours, with the site’s and the client’s postal codes

Questions about community connections

Can’t find what you need? Write to us and a person will answer.

[email protected]
Can we record volunteers and community guests?

iCARE reports only newcomer clients, so name volunteers, hosts and Elders in the session summary.

Is a conversation circle a LINC class?

No. Record it as an informal language learning session. LINC classes report separately, on their own templates.

Can one event count for the whole family?

Each family member you report needs their own client record. A parent who only brings a child isn’t added.
